Lurveys is the type of place that you get what you pay for. I'm pretty honest when it comes to my opinions, so I'm going to be honest with this last item as well. Their flowers are well-loved and tended to so they can be transferred right into your garden! Lurveys is my go-to place for spikes (never seen any as tall as theirs). They have fairy gardens, terrariums, koi ponds.and did I mention the gorgeous array of flowers & plants?!? They also have unique gifts for anyone on your list (pet lovers, gardeners, wedding showers, newlyweds, housewarming, the list goes on.) They must've renovated the inside recently because it's huge & has so much more to offer!įor example, there's a coffee station for customers. I've been coming here for years (I live about an hour away, but stumbled upon this place due to work travel years ago.been making the yearly trek ever since!). Finding an especially nice specimen is a matter of looking around at different places and checking back often as they get new plant material every week, all season long. I do recommend you check out Lurvey's if you are in the market for plants and trees and compare to other nurserys you like. case of our Japanese maple above, purchasing retail and having Lurvey's deliver and plant the tree would have cost over 3 times as much as my landscaper charged me to purchase at his price, pick up, deliver and plant the tree. In my experience, if you use a landscaper they can save you some money on the purchase price if they wish, and will deliver and plant for much less money Lurvey's. Lurvey's wants 150% of the retail purchase price of a tree to deliver and plant a tree, WAY out of line, but delivery price alone isn't unreasonable. Retail prices are high but not out of line for our area and landscapers get a good discount. We just purchased a very pretty specimen B&B 7' Empire 1 Japanese Red Maple tree from them at a fair price. It is often lightly staffed for the traffic, which is frustrating if you are trying to get help with purchase of a tree, but my wife and I have found nice plant material there. They can also be planted in the spring and summer as well! We typically start planting trees in May (depending on weather) and we plant trees all year long up until early December (depending on weather).Lurvey's is a nice nursery with a large selection of plants, trees, other garden items and more. That is a long way of saying- yes, they can be planted in the fall up to around Thanksgiving as long as they are initially dug out of the ground in the spring. In some cases, we are able to fall dig Red Sunset Red Maples as well, and we have had success doing so- but we only do this with the express permission of the customer as it is a bit more risky. They can be planted at any time during the year, including at any time during the fall, as long as they are dug out of the ground in the spring (which ours are!). From there, they can sit balled and burlapped out of the ground all year, as long as they are on drip irrigation (which ours are!). Red Sunset Red Maple prefers to be spring dug- so we dig them out of the ground in March or April depending on the weather. All trees can be dug out of the field in the spring, before they leaf out and, in addition, some trees can also be dug in the fall after their leaves have dropped. All of our trees are balled and burlapped- which means we dig the tree, much of its root system, and surrounding soil and then wrap it in burlap and put it in a metal basket- at that time it is ready to be transported and transplanted.
